Inerail's email hosting is extremely flexible, so it can work with a number of different configurations. Most people prefer a standard IMAP/SMTP with webmail, allow them to send and receive email from both desktop computer clients (such as Outlook or Thunderbird) as well as via a webmail interface. Because of the way IMAP was designed, this allows for your inbox and folders on any of your desktop computers to be synchronized, as well as synchronization with the webmail system. For security, all our mail servers, including SMTP, are secured with user authentication. Some people may also prefer to encrypt the IMAP and SMTP connections, for that we also provide TLS-encrypted IMAPS and SMTPS services.
Other people prefer to go for a more "traditional" POP3/SMTP setup, meaning that all of their mail is downloaded to their desktop computer client (like Outlook or Thunderbird) and removed from the server. This does not allow for mailbox synchronization. Webmail is compatible with this type of setup, but once a message has been downloaded from the server using POP3, it will no longer be available in the webmail system. Again, we also offer encryption for these connections via TLS-encrypted POP3S and SMTPS.
Furthermore, these various mail configurations can be setup on a user-to-user basis, instead of generalizing the settings for an entire domain. One user can download the messages to their inbox and remove them from the server with POP3 while another on the same domain can synchronize several mailboxes with our IMAP server.
Lastly, our IMAP servers support the IMAP 'idle' method for "push email" to a PDA or smartphone over a cellular network. What that means is that if you have a PDA phone or smartphone, our server can immediately inform your phone of the message and forward it to your phone --- as opposed to more traditional smartphone configurations in which the phone must check the server for new mail every 5 to 15 minutes in order to get messages. Instead, messages will be delivered immediately to your phone, assuming it supports IMAP 'idle' PUSH email.
